Welcome!

Hello! Welcome to our very own class blog. This is a place for us to have an ongoing conversation about what we are learning in our classroom. Let's try it out!

First Day Homework

Share some of your summer highlights. You could describe a trip you took, what you did at home, what you did to beat the heat, etc. :)

Expectations: Refer to the blogging rules at left. Please write at least a paragraph in order to paint a clear picture of your summer break (see my example below).

  1. Right after school ended, I went to Lake Tahoe with Mr. Page. We stayed in a cozy cabin in the woods. It had a view of the lake, and one day I sat on the deck and read in an entire book. We hiked on a nearby trail, waded in the warm water of the lake, and fully enjoyed relaxing in the sun. The most exciting part of our trip was when we encountered the neighborhood brown bear. He was searching for food - in garbage cans, in the back of a pickup truck, and he even tried to enter a house through the front door! I wonder what tastes better: berries and grubs, or people's table scraps?

  4. This Summer I went to Banff, Canada with my cousins and stayed at this VERY beautiful hotel which is in a national park. You could see bears, deers, elks, bald eagles, mountain goats, and much more. We went hiking and saw a little stream which was called Paint pots. The water is red because of the minerals that's in the soil. This summer was fun....

  5. The highlights of my summer were my trips to Mt. Rainier, Deception Pass, Vancouver B.C. and Salt Spring Island located off the coast of Vancouver Island. These places were packed with natural beauty. We took a lot of great pictures. However, during my trip to Canada, I was attacked by hungry-for-prey mosquitoes. My immune system overreacted to them and so now I try to stay away from them! :)

  7. On my summer I stayed home most of the time but towards the end of summer I visited the Geges (my grandpa and grandma) in Georgia. My aunt came too with my two cousins Lily and Ellie. Lily is 5 and is in Kindergarten and Ellie is 9 months old. We did lots of things like swimming, roasting marshmallows and other fun activities. We went to Stone Mountain and to the Georgia Aquarium. I played with my cousins and had a fun time. I can't wait to visit again!

This summer I went to washington D.C.! It was the best trip ever. We got to see so many memorials and it was very educational but still very fun. I got to stand in front of the White House and it was the coolest thing ever. I wanted to see president Obama but he was on a trip. I really liked this trip because I got to go with my family and it was very interesting. Thank you for reading what I did his summer.

  11. This summer, I had a lot of fun. I went to a wedding and saw family members I hadn’t seen in years. We brought our trailer to Origen. My cousin Krista got married in the hot sun at a beautiful vineyard. Then, we had dinner and celebrated. The entire vacation was fun, not just the wedding. Every night, the other members of our family would come to our trailer and make S’mores. We also had the glow sticks that light up when you crack them, and we would put them all over our bodies and wore them every place possible. Then, when we went to bed, we hung them all over our trailer. Everywhere you looked, you saw glowing rings of light. That vacation was really great! That was probably the highlight of my summer.

  17. This summer I was normally chilling at home except every weekend my cousins, aunt and uncle, my family and my grandparents went to chelan. My grandparents and aunt and uncle have a place up there so we had a lot of fun. I spent most of my time swimming in the lake, at the water park, playing soccer, intertubing, boating and go-carting. I went there for my birthday, fourth of July and the rest were just to be with the family and have fun. On one of the trips i had a friend come and we met up with our really good family friends too. My favorite place to be is in Chelan or home or maui but mostly Chelan. this is the only reason why i love summer!

  19. I had a great summer vacation. I went to New Mexico with my family. We visited my Grandparents. While we were there it was very hot. We went swimming, go-carting, rock climbing, golfing, to museums and more. Later in the summer we went on two camping trips. The first was in Sequim, WA and the second was at Mt. St. Helens. Both of those trips were very fun. We had lots of visitors including plenty of family who were here for a big wedding. We did lots of things around the Seattle area too. We went to several Mariner's games and to Alki beach. I hope fifth grade is just as fun!!! Connor #10

  20. This summer was great. I went to the movies a lot.
I saw Transformers 2 three times. I also saw G Force and G I Joe. I went to Wild Waves about ten times. Each time I brought a different friend. I also went to a lot of parties. I swam at most of the parties. Swimming is one of my favorite things to do. I went to Cannon Beach. I played in a arcade, ate a corn dog, saw my grandparents and swam a little. I really love summer. I am looking forward to fifth grade.

  27. This Summer I had a big socer tournament in San Diego. The tournament lasted for 3 days. So at 1:00 pm on Thursday we got on a plane with all my teamates. It was awesome being with them. Once we got there we played as many card games as we could when we had the time. The next day We played a bunch of teams that were all a year up like the San Diego team, the Hawaii team and a bunch more, Even though we lost mostly all of the games it was still an amazing experience to take a plane all the way just for a soccer tournament! After it was all over a couple of my soccer friends and I went to Sea World! We went on all sorts of rides. We came back on Wednesday and we found out we're going to play in an Oregon tournament in 2 weeks! But that's a whole different story. Signed by, Cameron

  32. I had a blast this summer, I went to Cancun, Mexico. I went there with my mom, dad, brother Collin, our two cousins, Angela and Vanessa, my grandma and my aunt and uncle. Of course the flight was incredibly boring, (8 hours on the plane) but the trip was totally worth it. We stayed in a fancy hotel, and everything was inclusive, the drinks, the food, and the desserts. The food tasted gourmet and the drinks were simply to die for. Collin, me, Angela and Vanessa spent most of the time swimming at the pool and calling to waiters :). We also went snorkeling and saw beautiful fish everywhere. After that my family and I went to the Mayan Ruins and saw many temples. I had an amazing summer that I wont forget (:

  33. This summer I went camping a Franklin Falls. On the first day when we got there we put up our tents and went to the creek. you had to hike a long way to get to the falls so we started out with just the creek. Lucy and I were jumping from rock to rock and we got half way to the dam. Lucy and I knew we couldn't go any farther so we went back to our campsite. After we got back we changed and went exploring. Lucy and I found a little small part of the creek and a path to cross so we went and there was a huge pile of rocks we went a little further down and decided the dads might be wondering where we were. Dinner was ready as we arrived but after dinner got really fun! We showed the younger kids where the path was in the creek and it was really hard for them to cross so we went back to see how the fire was doing because we got to have smores. Unlimited it was a BLAST! It was 10:00 or later when we went to sleep, and when we woke up that morning we couldn't wait to get to the falls, so we left right after we had breakfast and packed up. Then we went on our hike to the falls. It was a long way., but there were some cut through’s. ( Those are little paths that lead you to the creek. We played on those on the way). When we got to the falls Lucy and I waded in the water and it was sooooooo cold, so we stuck with the usual jumping on the rocks we got used to the water after falling a lot of times. At the end before we left our bodies had gotten used to the water to we tried swimming but Lucy and my legs were numb we could not feel them, so of course that made the walk back very difficult. It was sad when we had to leave because we all had a great time so leaving was not the best part of our trip it was everything else. Now that is what I did this summer.

  35. This summer was awesome because my baby sister went for the first time to Mexico City to visit some relatives. We stayed for five days and for all those days I had sleepovers with every different cousin. Then we went to Cabo San Lucas and stayed in a hotel called Dreams.I went to a club for kids and made a bunch of friends. Some of the activities I had were bungee jumping, swimming, camping at the beach, eat dinner with my friends, play WII and went to the beach. I also stayed there for 4th of July huge party, it was so cool!

When I got back from my trip, I went to the movies and had lots of sleepovers with my friends. I swam a lot, went to a farm, Bainbridge Island, Vasa Park and a water park. That was my fun summer...

  36. I had a wonderful vacation! I went to Hawaii and visted all of my relatives. We went to this great beach called Bellows and went swimming. The only bad part is that I got stung by a Portugese Manowar all across the arm and chest. I got to stay at this wonderful house on the beach that was very comfterable. I had almost all of my dad's family over and ate lunch together and play tons of games. It was a blast! The saddest part was when we had to say goodbye.

  39. I think the quote means you well do better in a group than if you are by your self. I agree with the quote because with more peole, you can get more ideas than if you are by your self. In school when you have to work together as a group, you can get more ideas than if you work by your self.

  40. This summer I visited my Grandparents in San Francisco. I walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, rode a Cable Car, walked down Lombard St (crooked Street),walk through the Palace of Fine Arts, and went to my Dad's favorite restaurant, The Balboa Cafe. I also played Softball for the Sammamish Little League. At the end of the season I made the All Star Team. I HAD A BLAST! I can't wait until next year.

  41. I think the quote means that life is lonly by your self but with other people you will not be as lonly and you will have a better life. And yes, I agree with the qoute because sometimes when you are alone, you feel bord but when you are with a some other people, you will have something to do and not feel bord and lonly. When I am at home by myself, I feel very bord, but when I invite a friend over to play, I won't feel as bord and lonly. Just like in school, when you work alone, you might not get as many things as if you work in a group.

  42. This summer I went to many places. I went to Manchester 2 times, once for the fourth of July and another time just for fun. I love going to Manchester because the house is on the beach. When we have a bonfire I can lean on the edge and feel the water( I usually hope I don't fall in). Manchester also has negtive parts because it is really rocky( but I still go barefoot[you should see the cuts on my feet]). At Manchester me and my friends found an old log and pushed it out to the ocean, with help from the neighbors. It took 1 and a half hours to get in the water!

We also went to Seaside,Oregon. Most of the time we walked around. One of my favorite parts was going to a place where we bought saltwater candy and ice cream ( it was only $.75 for ice cream)

Last but not least we went to Victoria,Canada. We went there for my dad's birthday, and my parent's anniversary( my dad's birthday is the day before my parent's anniversary).

Ihad a really had a good summer I hope everyone else had a good summer.

  43. I guess what Helen Keller is trying to say is if you try to do a task alone, you won't get much done, but together, as a team, you can accomplish so much. She wants you to understand about how teamwork affects your life. If we didn't have it, hardly anything would get done. That not only occurs in school, but also home or anywhere else. When you are in school, and have work to do, if you work as a team you'll get it done faster. For example, I know this is true in my life, when I went Camping in summer 2009, I went canoeing, when I paddled I just kept going in circles, but when my cousin jumped in the canoe to help, we made it the the middle of the lake and back! Though I have to admit, it was very fun, but since we used teamwork, we got so back to the dock happily. Helen Keller made that quote, "Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much" a long time ago, but it still means so much today.

  44. I think the quote means that when your alone, you can only do little things, but when your in a group you can do more then you can do alone. I agree with the quote becouse on Saturdays I have to clean the wood floors with water and vineger. (yes, water and vineger) So when I do it alone, it takes like 15 minutes, but when my dad and mom and I all do it it takes like 5 minutes becouse we all do a diferent part. It can be the same with about everything, even Math Boxes!
