Camp Reflections

We did SO much while we were at Camp Warm Beach last week. Take some time to reflect upon what you did. Please describe at least three things that you learned while at camp. These can be things you learned during our classes, but they can also be things you learned during cabin time, meal time, or even free time. Please write an organized, detailed, complete paragraph for your response.

  1. I was amazed by the new things I learned at Camp Warm Beach. One of the things I learned at camp was that when a lot of kids get into a pool and go in circles it creates a whirlpool. I also learned what life was like back in the pioneer years. In the pioneer years people used to make their own homes, food, fire and arrows. The third thing I learned was that it takes skill to do many things in the wild if you want to make it out of there. Those are a few of the things I learned at camp. I hope I will always remember the fun I had there.

  2. I can't believe how much fun I had at Camp Warm Beach! There is nothing better than sitting around a camp fire with your friends while talking and eating smores. The first thing that I learned at camp was that you can never have to many friends to hang out with. That also means that meeting new friends is never a bad thing and it doesn't matter how maany friends you have or how popular you are.The second thing I learned is that if you work together to complete a task you WILL complete it and the work WILL pay off! Even if you are working with people you don't know, you can always get the job done! By working with people you don't know, you can become friends with a lot more people. The third and last thing that I learned at Camp Warn Beach is that complimenting someone doesn't get them to be your friend. You have to like whats in their heart and inorder for you to be friends with that person, you have to make sure that they like you as a friend too. Because if they don't like you as a friend, that will make your relationship between eachother, harder. If your relationship between eachother is hard than you could lose that person as a friend. I will remember this trip forever and deffinitely use the three things I learned to help me with the challenges coming in my future.

  4. This week at camp I learned many things. Some of the things I learned are how pioneers did EVERYTHING on their own and the skills that they needed to know that are important like making fire, building a bow/arrow,and shoeing a horse.
The second thing I learned was that some team work gets you really far like in leadership we all came up with ideas to make the ball get to everyone in order.
the last thing I learned that my dad was fre meyer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(joke)

  5. Camp was a blast!! there was a lot of things that we learned. What I learned was about the Wetlands, animals, and important activites that we learn like canoeing, swimming pool and the cimbing wall.

I love the meals that they served for us to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner. My favorite foods at camp were cinnamon rolls, pasta, breadsticks, mashed potatoes with gravy. The cabins were so nice and clean I was sleeping at the bottom with my sleeping bag and special blaket. At free time I loved going to the swimming pool.It was so warm it felt like a hot tube. I loced minature golf, I am so good at it golf. I liked mini golf much better than real golf. I loced playing Tennis. I like hitting that serve as hard as I can. I beat Benjamin and Bradon when I served the ball to them.

I wish that we were at camp much longer than 2 days. I have never been at a cabin before, but the cabin was fantastic, next time I go to a camp again I'm going to sleep on the top of bunkbed.

    See Yeah!!!

  6. I had the best time at Camp Warm Beach. I learned a million things about nature and about the other people I was there with. I learned how to start a fire using what the Pioneers had in their time. I learned what their lives were like back then, and we lived it for a short time. I also learned that we can accomplish big things if we work together with other people. It was great to get to know people better, and have the chance to see them succeed and be able to cheer them on in the process. I also learned that there are some really great kids in 5th grade that I didn't know well before camp. I loved having time to just be kids. I also learned that some adults love to still be kids. I loved Camp Warm Beach and am so grateful to have had the opportunity to go! It was a trip I will never forget!

  7. The experience I had at Camp Warm Beach was amazing and memorable. I had so much fun and learned a lot during this camping trip. Although I wished I could stay for few more days, I was really happy to come home on Friday because I really missed my family.
The three things I learned at the camp were canoeing, wetland and orienteering.

Canoeing, one of my favorite classes, has taught me that an estuary is a section of a river meeting the sea. It forms a mixture of salt water with fresh water from the lake or stream. The water is called brackish water. I also learned that canoeing is not only a fun sport, but it involves a great amount of team work. The back person is the steerer, the front person provides all of the power by consistently paddling, and the middle person is the captain or the navigator. It is also a good idea to stay seated or the boat might tip over.

Second, I have also learned and enjoyed a lot during the wet lands class. The teacher taught us about many different plants. Some were edible, some were useable, and some were poisonous. Many common edible plants were salmon berries, black berries, and raspberries. Some plants were used for medicine and some just have good smells. There are also plants which you would want to stay away from like stinging nettles. Stinging nettles are plants with leaves covered with fine hairs or spines that sting when touched.

Finally Orienteering was another class that I really enjoyed. In this class I learned how to use a map and a compass to help me find my way to places. One of the tips that the instructor said was that if you first find west using the compass, you can figure out the other directions. He also said that you should always orient your map before using it or else you would get lost. You can orient it by finding where north, south, east, and west are. I had a lot of fun using a compass with the teacher.

I have had a lot of fun at camp playing with my friends but I have also leaned many new things during my fun classes. Now before I go hiking or camping, I will always bring a map of the area and a compass. If go hiking or I get lost, I can use a map and a compass to help me find my way back where I want to go. When I am canoeing, I can go more smoothly through the water and I can lower the chances of our canoe tipping over. And last, when I am hiking, I like to touch a lot of plants but I got hurt or infected by some so now I know which plants to stay away from and which plants are o.k. to stay around. Now I will have a better time playing around outside.

  8. I had an interesting experience at Camp Warm Beach from the day we got off the bus to the day we packed our bags for the trip home. I learned many things during my vacation to Camp Warm Beach. The lessons I learned were about life in the pioneer days, orienteering, and about wetlands.

There were no grocery stores in the 17000’s. The pioneers had to make everything the owned, furniture, clothing, food, and tools & supplies. So, out in the woods, we had a pioneer challenge. Two cabin groups were put together and we had to work in the pioneer days. We had to make our own fire, furniture, and shelter. We also had to make our own butter and crackers. It was delicious! Everyone had to sign a parchment with ink. We used teamwork and everyone had a job. I made part of the butter. With this challenge, I learned to work with others I didn’t know very well. There were some people in other classes I wasn’t too familiar with, and this activity showed me how to understand others and to work with them. I liked this activity the best.

For the first time ever, I learned how to use a compass. Our class had to navigate our way through the woods and find marks of places on the map. It was a little tricky, knowing where to point the N on our compass. We definitely “worked well as a team,” though we didn’t find very many marks. Orienteering was a chance for all of us to work together and listen to one another.

Did you know wetlands can prevent floods? Wetlands are a home to many animals and plants. Our teacher taught us about the plants and how wetlands prevent floods. Wetlands can prevent flooding by absorbing water and reducing the speed that the water flows in. She also taught us about plants. My favorite plant was the cattail. It contains goey sap inside. Wetlands was also fun to learn about

Camp was definitely an experience I won’t forget.

  9. Camp was so awesome!!! It was one of my favorite things that I did this year! While at camp, even though it was mostly fun and games, I learned alot. One thing I learned was how to follow a map, using true north and magnetic north. Also, I learned that if you work together you can accomplish alot more, than by yourself. I learned this when we had the leadership class. Because we played games that unless everyone was working together, was impossible to win. Last, I learned that helping others will increaase your carma, so that person will do something helpful back to you. I deffinitly learned this when I was bussing the table, after a meal. Becasue when I bussed someones plate they, in return, bussed mine! Campp was alot of fun, and you got to have freedom. But, when you're at camp, you're still at school, which means you need to still be learning!

  10. Camp was so much fun! I had the best time I could possibly have! I learned many things at camp! One thing that was really facinating to me was the wetlands! The wetlands had many bugs and plants in them. Wetlands help clean water and they help prevent floods. There were so many interesting plants that lived there. The coolest plant was the cattails. It was fun to cute them open and see the inside of the leaves and stem.

Another thing that I learned to do and that I did for the first time was canoeing! I was so scared at canoeing but I kept going anyways. At first I felt like we were going to flip over. I was freaking out! (you can even ask Hannah and Natalie!) I went with Hannah and Natalie. We got stuck a few times but we learned how to keep our canoe even and straight. I learned how many flys lived in the wetland when we sailed by! I also learned how to hold a paddle and how to steer evenly down the water.

Another thing I learned was teamwork goes a long way! I learned that from the leadership class! We played many games and the whole time the only way to win! It was to work as a team! After that class I think that our whole class encouraged eachother better than we had before! The lesson was that you can get a lot more done and accomplish a lot more if you work as a team.

I also learned a lot about the people in my cabin. I was only close to two people in my cabin so it was interesting to learn about everyone else in my cabin. I am glad that I got people I didn't know in my cabin because it opened up knew friendships. I went back home from camp with six new friends! Camp was a blast! I wish we could have stayed longer!! I had so much fun and I hope I can go back!

  11. Camp Warm Beach was so much fun because I had a great time there. Every day, I learned something new in each of the classes. These lessons include teamwork is key to success, one can never have too many friends, and I discovered that I love mini-golf!
Teamwork is one of the most important things in life. This is because teamwork helps us make friends and also helps us succeed. When everyone puts their heads together, we get better results. When we succeed, we feel good about ourselves and that is exactly what we were being taught at each class. The camp staff promoted teamwork and everybody felt happy. Even if we didn’t win a prize for the activity, we are still able to make friends and have fun.
Next, I learnt that one can never have too many friends. When I was at camp, I was lucky to have good friends in my cabin and class. If I didn’t, camp would have been a disaster. What was awesome was that I got to know some kids that I typically don’t play with that often. Also, I got to know my old friends even better. They made camp more enjoyable. Friends are very important and I am happy that at camp, I had such great ones.
I also learned that I love mini-golf. I played mini-golf for the first time and loved it! One day, I even spent all my free time playing this game! It just made my day. I was surprised that I enjoyed it so much, especially since I’ve played golf before. I suppose no matter how much fun you are having, you can never have too much fun. At the end of the third day at camp, I was enjoying myself so much, I couldn’t stop smiling. Having too much fun is impossible and I have realized that at camp.

  12. Camp was great! It was one of my favorite things I did in fifth grade. One thing I leaned to do was read a map and use a compass. There was a class called orienteering where you did that. Another thing we learned was that working together always works better that working by yourself. we learned that in the leadership class. We played games that You couldn't win unless you worked together. Finally, we learned about pioneers. we did things that they did every day. They didn't have grocery stores back then. I learned lots at camp. Even though your at camp, you still learn.

  15. You might think that at a camp where you are having a blast you don’t learn anything. The truth is you learn a ton! For Instance at Camp Warm Beach I learned that teamwork is very important and helps make things easier, also hard work pays off in the end, and cooperation also make things a lot easier. These few lessons you might think are useless but they really help you out, I’ll explain.

I learned teamwork is important and helps makes things easier in leadership skills. We were playing a game called team everyone’s it tag. So you have teams of two and basically it is tag but everyone is it. If you get tagged you have to sit down and only your teammate can free you. Teamwork makes life easier because instead of being out for good, your teammate can free you and you can have a second chance. It is also important because without it things would be more complicated than they should be.

Rock climbing is fun, but in order to make it to the top you have to work hard, but in the end, that hard work pays off. If you want something really badly you have to work for it, but in the end it pays off. This is another important lesson that stood out to me that I learned at camp. A lot of people think fun things teach you nothing, but, they have been proved wrong again. Another example of this lesson would be the fact that I had to pay for camp. I had to raise all of the money by myself and it was hard, but I am really glad I did because I had a blast at camp and I thought going through all of the hard work was totally worth it.

Cooperation is the key to success, without it no one would get along and nothing would get communicated. This lesson again I learned from leadership skill. We were playing a game where there are three even teams. Each team has their own hula-hoop in which they try to collect all of the softballs provided. The catch is that teams can steal from one another, you can only take one ball at a time, and you can only walk. The game went on forever! Then our instructor was going to give us a hint and I guessed we could all work together, even though I was only joking I was right. All of the teams need to cooperate in order for my plan (of putting the hula-hoops inside one another with all of the softballs in the middle) to work, this way all of the teams won the game. Cooperation really helps to make life fair.

  16. Camp Warm Beach was awesome!!!! While we were there, we did canoeing, learned about the wetlands, there was a climbing tower, a pool, leadership class, camp fire, there was a bird walk, and much more! There were cabins and lodges. After every meal, we would line up with our cabin mates at the flag pole. We made a whirlpool in the pool. A whirlpool happens when everyone goes in the shallow pool and we would swim one way until the life guard tells us to swim the other way. Then everyone floats the other way. It was soooo fun!
At night, it was really hard to sleep. Everyone that was on the top bunk kept moving and that would make a creaking noise which kept me up ALL night long! Camp was like a sleep over with a ton of friends! The chaperones and teachers made a skit. If I were to pick which skit was the best, I would pick the Fred Meyer's skit.
The canoeing was hard. But when I was doing it, it was relaxing! We hit another canoe, I think we almost got stuck one time.
The lodge I was in, was kind of crazy (some people were hyper). But we had a lot of fun. If I could, I would go back there again. I loved doing the pioneer skills! And the butter that we made, was delicious!
I wish that we could of spent more time at camp. I hope that next years 5th graders enjoy camp as much as I did.

  17. I learned so much new things at camp. One of the things I learned was a couple of survival and pioneering skills, like how to make a fire, milk a cow make a bow and arrow to hunt with, how to make butter, and how to write with a quill pen. Another thing I learned was how to read a compass although the instructor's way was hard and complicated it was still a neat and important skill to have with you. Last but not least I learned how to canoe. It was extremely fun because it was the first time I did it without flipping over in to the water (thankfully). That wa only 3 things I learned at camp I also learned much more fun and exiting things.

  18. Camp Warm Beach was SO FUN!!!! Not only was it fun to play in the activities, but it was fun to learn new things. First, in Initiatives and Leadership and pioneer skills, I learned about working together. I already knew how, but in those activities I learned that it does no good to try to talk over one another, think of new ways to try something, and sometimes (like in pioneer skills) it is easiest to give everyone a job instead of trying to everything together, you will work faster that way. Second, in Wetlands, I learned that invasive plants, such as blackberry bushes, are growing in wetlands. These plants take over the native plants, one who are from here, and make it hard for them to live. Also once the native plants are gone, animals have nothing to eat. Third, I learned how to canoe. It was my first time, and it was very fun. I learned the correct way to paddle, and how to steer. IThat came in handy because I sat in the back which meant I was the steering wheel. Finally, I learned how to read a map and I compass together. I also did not know about Magnetic North and True North. True North will lead you up to the south pole. Magnetic North is about 23 degrees and it will lead you to the kind of north they talk about in directions. Though that is only 4 lessons, I learned so much more at camp. I had such a great time.

  19. Camp Warm Beach was an amazing experience that I will never forget! I have so many memories that will remember forever! I mean sitting at the camp fire with your friends, eating smores, and singing camp fire songs! I mean what can get better than that? Also how could anyone forget that amazing food we got to eat!! Somethings I learned at camp were work together! I learned this during the scavenger hunt, orienteering, the leadership class, and during the canoeing in the estuary. Another thing I learned was how the pioneers survived in the wilderness. It was fun how we had to make everything and then move out, n the pioneer skills challenge. Lastly, I learned how to canoe! That was so fun! I got stuck a couple times in the grass and crashed lots but overall it was so fun! You just have to talk to your partner like you could say,"stroke, stroke". Also it is also good to encourage each other! We are so lucky that we got to go to camp warm beach! It was an amazing experience I will never forget! Also I cant believe how fast it went by! It felt like 1 day but it was 3! Well, time flies when you are having fun!

  20. I LOVED Camp Warm Beach! My cabin was really fun! I also liked the swimming pools because there were two and one was heated. One thing I learned at Camp Warm Beach was that the pioneers had to make everything out of the things they had, and it was not always easy. Me and Lucas had to make the bow and arrow, and it was not easy. We had to find a stick that was exacly the right length and bendy. It was really hard, but it tought me more about the pionerers.
One of the classes at Camp Warm Beach is called oreanteering, and that is where I learned my second lesson: How to read a compass. This was by far the most complicated lesson because the compass went all weird if you had metal near you, and also it was really hard to read. Also, we had to work together to get to our next checkpoint, where my last lesson comes in: If you work together, it always turnes out good. I learned this because my team was really working together good and we got to 7 checkpoints I think. I really liked camp and I am glad I went.
Thank you Mrs. Page for taking us to Camp Warm Beach!!!!

  21. Camp Warm Beach was super cool and awesome. While we were there we did some interesting stuff that I wouldn't do in my house or outside, like for example the whole class went canoeing and I had never done canoeing. Also having a campfire, going on a bird walk, using a real compass to go from some place to another. I learned a lot.

I learned during camp how to climb a 40 ft rock climbing tower. I had never climbed before, only if I had to climb the rope in my gymnastics class, but I never climbed a 40 ft rock climbing wall. Before I started climbing I thought I was going to vomit because I was so nervous and scared of what was going to happen when I got to the top. When I started to climb up my hands felt sweaty and I was shaking like crazy. I was thrilled when I got to the top, it felt that I could fly and when I looked down it felt that the people were ants. I was so proud of myself that I got to the top, now I just want to go to the REI in Redmond to climb the huge rock climbing rock.

Teamwork was another thing I learned in camp. After dinner, our cabin group had to make a skit out of a playing horse. So when we were having Ideas we needed full participation from our group, but there was girl who was just laying down in her buck bed and just started sleeping and not giving any ideas, so we told that girl that we had to work together as a team, and she said yes. At the end our skit was successful and we got a 7,7,8 from the judges. Also when we had to do the pioneers skills we needed a lot of teamwork to start a fire, make a chair out of wood, and make butter, which by the way it tasted good with crackers.

I also learned how to canoe; I had never been canoeing before, I always thought it was very easy, but when I started stroking it was a lot of hard work. My partner Morgan and I didn't even get to the end like everyone else did, and we were the last persons to be done with canoeing. While we were trying to move forward we were just doing circles and hitting the plants and going different directions. We were also going to another wetland. I was almost going to cry, at the end I was just happy I was in land again and that we made it. I had fun canoeing, but I never going to do it again.

I had a lot of fun at camp and I learned a lot. I even miss camp, I still keep talking about camp to my parents. Camp was the best because you were with you're friends and no parents and having so much fun, I didn't even miss my parents. I wish I could go this summer, or even better, go there for 6th grade camp. I hope the next 5th graders have lots of fun in camp, like I did.

  22. Camp was amazing. I had such a great time. My three favorite parts were pioneering skills, the climbing wall, and the 4-way soccer. Those activities were great! I loved camp!
I really had a wonderful time making the stool in pioneering skills. I used a tripod lashing technique and added some succulents to the bottom so it didn't collapse under my 90 lbs. Sadly, one of the legs of the stool fell off and it fell apart. But it was fun while it lasted!
The rock wall was SO HARD!!! It was 40 ft. tall and had a portion that slanted out 45°! It was near impossable to climb, (I said NEAR impossable) but I climbed it to the top! It was intense! My adrenalin was pumping, my heart was pounding, I felt truly scared, and truly alive! It was awesome!!!
Finally, the game 4-way soccer was cool. The ball was bigger than me! It was huge! The ball rolled around and rand a lot of people over. I was mauled by that thing! It knocked me to the ground! That was so amazing! Sadly, we didn’t get to play very many rounds, but our class won!
Camp was one of the best experiences of 5th grade. The pioneer stool, the rock wall, and the 4-way soccer were my favorite activeties. The only thing I didn’t like about camp was that it only lasted three days. If I go on a camp like this again, I hope that it’s for like a week (not a five day week, a seven day week). I really loved camp!

  23. CAMP WAS THE BEST!!! I got a lot of friends in my cabin. I learned that if you use teamwork and all team-up we can get the job done way faster and easier. I learned this in the leadership class. I also learned a lot about wet lands like if you build on them eventually your building will crush down so in the end it costs way more than just building on the cement. I learned this in the wet lands class. When I was watching some people do the advanced rock climbing wall and they were going really slow I thought I could do way better. When it was my turn I got to the wall and I actually did worse. The lesson I learned was to be humble and that things are harder then they look. I learned this at the rock climbing wall. I hope that everybody had a great time at camp!

  24. I love camping! It's amazing to just sit around the campfire and sing and eat delicious smores. There were also so many things we learned but my first thing that I loved was when we did the rock climbing wall. It was awesome to be able to my favorite things. Everybody said I went really fast on the Superhero wall and I felt like I went fast. I think it's because I was so excited to be doing that, that I couldn't wait to be at the top! I learned that everyone has their own pace. It doesn't matter how much time you're taking, it just matters if you're having fun.

I loved hanging out with all my new cabin friends. It was really cool to see how very different everyone is from eachother. The second thing I loved learning is that you can never have too many friends. Meeting new people is not a bad thing, it's great! It's always great to have so many friends tha like you as you.

I loved all the classes and fun games. There was so many things to do. The third thing I learned was in leadership and that was if you work together, you will get the task done. An example was that we had to pass the chicken around with our whole class and see if we ccan get a faster time that before and we ended up getting one second after that. To get that second was because we all listened to eacother and cooperated.

Camp was one of the best experiences in fifth grade. I will never forget those three days packed with fun. All the activities. Even in free time or at lunch it was a blast. The only thing that was bad about this was that it only lasted three days! I would want it to go for 5-7 days!
