I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
- William Wordsworth
I wandered lonely as a cloud
that floats on high o'er vales and hills,
when all at once I saw a crowd,
a host, of golden daffodils;
beside the lake, beneath the trees,
fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
and twinkle on the milky way,
they stretched in never-ending line
along the margin of a bay:
ten thousand saw I at a glance,
tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
1. Tell me what you think the poet is talking about (i.e. paraphrase the poem).
2. What season is the poet describing? How do you know?
3. How does this poem make you feel? Why?

  1. I think the poet is talking how it would feel if you were floating over a cloud and you looked below. He is also pointing out how beautiful nature and the wilderness is. He describes the daffodils, so that they seem to come to life. I think the author is describing the season of spring because flowers bloom in spring and he mentions being by the lake with a light breeze which means that it could be late spring or early summer. The poem makes me feel like I could have been there when he was writing it! The way he describes the different parts of nature, makes me feel like I was there. The poet made me think differently about nature, and will help me look more closely when we go hiking.

  3. I think the poet is talking about a clouds point of view of things because it says over “vales and hills”, “fluttering and dancing in the breeze” . Also it sounds like he is say what nature does in the spring time because flowers bloom and butterflies come out. This poet is describing Spring. I know because flowers mostly bloom in Spring. This poem makes me feel as if I am seeing everything that is says. I can imagine everything in different ways. I also tells me how beautiful nature is.

  4. To me, it sounds like the poet is wondering what it would be like to be a cloud, and what you would see. I think this because he says "I wander lonely as a cloud, above the vales and hills". When he says above you instantly know that he is looking from above. I think the setting of this poem is the spring, because dafodills come up in the spring, and early summer. This poem feels soothing to me. The poet makes everything sound like a fantasy, and that there are no bad things in the world. I think the poet made this poem to brighten up your day, or make you feel better if you're are feeling sad. I know that this poem would deffinitly make me feel better.

  5. I think that the poet is talking about what your veiw would be like if you were floating above a cloud because he is describing nature and veiws of things. I think it is the seson of spring because if it were winter or fall it would describe colder things. Also spring is when flowers bloom and the poet talking about daffidales. This poem makes me feel warm because it describes a very good setting. It makes me invision a hill with clouds and trees and a bright sun. The poet did an awesome job describing!! This poem also makes me feel like i am flying because it sounds like a perfect view from the sky. The poem also makes me feel comforting because it seems soft and happy and like a dream. This poem would do a great job on brighting up my day or making sad times into good ones.

  6. I think that William Wordsworth is talking about the beauty of nature. He mentions the golden daffodils, the gorgeous lake, the vales, hills, and the peaceful and sturdy trees. These are some examples of the landscape which he appreciates greatly. Also, he begins the poem as a lonely observer but as he notices each element of the land surrounding him, he finds happiness and companionship in nature. I believe that he thinks this is his paradise.
The season the poet is describing is spring. This is because he sees pretty daffodils and they bloom in the spring. Also, he describes the stars, which means that the sky is clear. Usually the seasons with clear skies are summer and spring.
This poem makes me feel happy and sad at the same time. At first, when he arrives at the setting, he feels sad and lonely. However, as the poem progresses, he becomes as cheerful as the dancing daffodils. It is not hard to see that nature is much more to the poet than just trees, valleys or hills. It is his friend and even family. I say this because he seems to be content and one with nature. I feel happy for him because he isn’t lonely anymore.
I loved this poem because it shows us that nature is beautiful and should be preserved. Some of us are destroying this gift left behind by previous generations. I think that is unkind to our ancestors, nature, and future generations of people. We should work harder to keep nature pure.

  7. The poet, William Wordsworth, is describing the beauty of nature in clouds, flowers, and the stars up in the sky. The author imagines himself to be like a lonely cloud floating over valleys and hills. He sees over ten thousand golden daffodils that were near a lake and below a tree. He watched as the daffodils swayed side to side in the gentle breeze. The flowers twinkles and shines just like the stars above in space.

The poet is describing the season of spring. In spring, flowers like daffodils bloom.

This poem makes me feel relaxed because it allowed me to imagine with my eyes closed that I was floating like a cloud looking at all the golden yellow daffodils. It is an amazing colorful sight with over ten thousand daffodils swaying side to side in the breeze. This poem also reminded me of my trip with my family to the tulip festival. I saw thousands of colorful tulips that painted the land with amazing colors.

  8. I think the poet is talking about what it would be like to be on a cloud and all of interesting things you would see. Also he is talking about the view of things from above. Kind of like a birds view. I think it is spring because he says the "vales and hills" and the "golden daffodils" and those things make me feel like spring. Also at the very beginning he tells us that he is seeing these beautiful things in nature that happen in the spring. When I read this poem I feel relaxed and like I am floating in the air, like a cloud. I also feel the pure nature and the amazing features that he is looking at because of the way he describes it. This peom spoke out to me and I think it did to my classmates too.

  9. I think William Wordsworth is talking about how beautiful nature is, like flowers, clouds, mountains, trees, lakes, and more. I think he is describing the cloud's view of valleys and hills.
I think he is talking about spring and early summer because flowers bloom during that time and it is usually sunny during this time of the year. This poem reminds me when I went to the tulip festival and saw thousands of colorful tulips.
This poem makes me feel like there are only happy things in the world. When I read this, I felt relaxed, as if all of my worries were lifted from me. After reading this poem, I want to make sure that we all take care of nature.

  10. I think the poem I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud is about a person who is depressed and lonely. The person finds a lake with golden daffodils which makes the person feel happy. It also is talking about how nature is beautiful.

I think the season the poet is talking about is spring. I think it is spring because it talks about daffodils and how they are golden. Also if I was the person and I closed my eyes it would be spring.

The poem makes me feel so happy because if I was sad or depressed I would really need a calm lake and flowers to cheer me up.

  11. I believe that in the poem, the poet is sad and lonely, but then he sees beautiful daffodils and thinks of wonderful thoughts. The poem takes place in the breathtaking season of spring, because the daffodils are blooming and it has that happy spring feeling to it. This poem makes me feel happy because of the wonderful descriptions and the amazing picture it paints in your head.

  12. I think the poet is thinking about what it would be like to be a cloud. I think that the poem started out as a daydream, and then the poet made it into a poem. I think this poem takes place in springtime because it describes flowers and stars. It also says there is a slight breeze, which reminds me of the spring. I think that this poem makes me feel a scene of longing, because when you read the poem, it makes you feel that this is what Wordsworth wants to see. It also makes me feel sort of happy, because seeing those things would be beautiful.

  13. I think this poet is describing what it be like to be floating in the sky. I think it is discribing that because when he say "I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o'er vales and hills" it shows that he is above what he is looking at. I think the season is spring because daffodils grow mostly in spring. This poem seems like it is fantasy it also makes me feel like i'm floating and looking down at the ground. This poem also seems happy because it seems like nothing bad is happening.

  15. I think the poet, William Wordsworth, is talking about the beauty of nature when it's springtime. The poem means that the earth has all these building and there's really no nature but then someone comes across a valley of beautiful daffodils and trees and the lake there. William is also saying how there's so many stars in the sky and they're all beautiful and very bright! Sometimes I feel like what Wordsworth is saying and I like to see the beauty of nature.

  16. I know it's springtime because that's when all the flowers come out. I would like to see more of nature because sometimes I feel like it's disappearing all together and it's going away so quickly.

  17. I think the poet is talking about how pretty it is outside and how some people don't take the time to look around to see what nature has to offer. I think the season is Spring because it talks about flowers. The poet makes me feel happy because of the words he uses like, "golden", and "dancing beneath the milky way".

  18. I think that this poem is partly talking about what it would be like to be a cloud looking at a valley with daffodils and a bright lake. I think this because it talking about how the cloud floats around and is lonely. I think that it is also talking about how beautiful and peaceful nature is because it talks about all of the daffodils and the trees that were in the breeze. It also talks about the lake and the bright and twinkling stars. I imagine it would look amazingly beautiful. The poet is talking about springtime because that is when the flowers all come out and there are light breezes. This poem makes me feel light and happy because that valley would be very beautiful. I love looking at all of the stars at night. It is amazing how those bright stars look against the black sky. Nature is absolutely, amazingly wonderful.

The poet is talking about spring because thats when the flowers bloom.
This poem makes me feel happy because it makes my mind think of happy colors.

  20. I think that the poem is trying to tell and explain to the reader what it would look like if you were floating on a cloud. Also, because the poem talks about nature and life. That tells me what you would see if you were floating on a cloud. I think it is the season of spring. It is the season of spring because if it were the season of winter or fall then the poem would explain and talk about cold things, like rain or snow, or, leaves falling off the trees. The season could be spring because usually flowers have been bloomed and the poem said there was golden daffodils. This poem makes me feel like I am flying or floating in the sky because it explains! This poem did a really good job on explaining and describing which helped me tell how I feel about it. It makes me feel like a bird flying high in the sky because it says "I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o'er vales and hills". This poem also makes me feel at home because it sounds slow and soft. "I wandered lonely as a cloud", is a great poem for brightening someone's day.

  21. I think what the poet William Wordsworth, is describing how he is as light and relaxed like a cloud. He also describing how he is a cloud in the sky, and see straight down the beautiful the nature is in the morning, afternoon, and at night. Like in the morning and afternoon he can look some people, or a lot of people in a street, can see the beautiful trees and golden dafidalls. Can also see the beautiful ocean and stars shining at night. At the end William can see the beautiful nature from a high view.
I think the poem is describing the season of spring, because in the spring the flowers start to sprout and how the stars are shining.
How this poem makes me feel relax. By closing my eyes don't think about anything else but being a cloud and thinking about nature in the morning and at night. Also to have lots of imagination. This poem very inspired me to think a lot of nature

  22. Do you like spring? The poem I wondered lonely as a cloud by: William Wordsworth to me is about spring. I think that the poet was talking about a stroll in a big field of daffodils on a sunny day with a lake bye it. I think he is talking about spring because it talks about the flowers and flowers bloom in the spring. The poem makes me feel happy and just very relaxed. I think that the poem really speaks to me

  23. The poet William Wordsworth is talking about how it would be like to be a lonesome cloud floating above a field full of daffodils next to a bright shining lake.

I think that he is talking about spring because it talks about flowers and flowers blooming in the spring. The descriptive words talk about a nice sunny, breezy, and beautiful environment.

This poem makes me feel very relaxed. It makes me feel relaxed because of how it explains the beautiful valley filled with flowers. Next to a bright cool lake. With a cool breeze. And many green trees with bright stars lighting the way. This is what I think about the poem " I wander as a Lonely Cloud" written by William Wordsworth.

  25. I think that (the appropriately named) William Wordsworth was describing how he saw nature, flying high, looking at all the trees and lakes and flowers.

I think he is most likely describing spring, when the leaves come back to the trees, the flowers bloom and the sun sparkles off lakes.

This poem makes me feel as if I am the cloud, alone in the sky, but at least the view is spectacular, I can imagine watching crowds of daffodils dance from great heights.

  26. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
    - William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
that floats on high o'er vales and hills,
when all at once I saw a crowd,
    a host, of golden daffodils;
beside the lake, beneath the trees,
fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
and twinkle on the milky way,
    they stretched in never-ending line
along the margin of a bay:
ten thousand saw I at a glance,
tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

What does this poem mean to me? I think the poet is the taking the voice of a lonely cloud, having an adventure watching spring burst over the hills. While he is observing the hills and vales, he is also experiencing the beauty of nature. “When all at once I saw a crowd, a host, of golden daffodils; beside the lake, beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze.” I think what he means by that sentence was that he was a lonely old cloud, but as he discovers the beauty of the golden daffodils dancing in the breeze, the nature begins to lift his spirits.

I think the season this poem takes place is summer or spring. I know this because in the first paragraph, the poet describes golden blooming daffodils next to the lake and under the trees. As the poem goes on, the day passes. The first paragraph describes morning and afternoon, and the second paragraph describes evening and night. “Continuous as the stars shine,” was also a clue to me. In the springtime, there are bazillions of stars in the night sky.

This poem surprised me. I liked how the poet was mysterious with his cloud character. I have gotten a closer look at how beautiful nature can be.

  27. I think that this poem is talking about spring and how the flowers and new things start coming. Talking about how the weather starts changing from cold to warm and how everything starts turning colorful. This person is talking about spring. Like I said before, Everything is changing and it said that flowers are blooming. For example in Pocahontas, it said it was the blooming season and then we talked about how it was spring. This poem first makes me fell kind of lonely because a cloud is lonely. In the end I felt better because of all of the good things that are starting to bloom.
