  1. I read the article, "Bees in Danger," by Betty Bumble. It was published on March 7, 2009. Because of pollution and human disruption of nature, the number of bees in the world is declining. This might seem like a good thing if you are afraid of bees, but it turns out that bees are actually very important to us people. Without bees' pollination of trees and flowers, many plants would not be able to reproduce. This would affect a lot of the plants we rely on for food. I was surprised by this article. I did not realize how important bees are to the world. I hope that more people learn about this problem so that we can keep the bee population from decreasing even more.

  2. I read the article, "Eye in the Sky", by Andrea Delbanco. It was published September 25, 2009. I learned that the Hubble Space Telescope was broken and astronauts went into space to fix it. Finally, they have finished their work. When I first read the article I thought, 'You went up into space and all you did was fix a telescope?" That's when I took a look at the telescope's pictures. They were breathtaking! I saw a picture of newly formed stars and realized just how important fixing the Hubble Space Telescope was.
I also read, "Fighting the Flames", by Suzanne Zimbler. It was published on September 11, 2009. It was about the wildfires in California. At first, I thought it was one big fire. It turns out there were eight. Eight! Think about that. Lots of people live in California and now, many people are wondering if their house is safe or not. I was sad reading this article, knowing that right now, I was okay and others were not. I also wondered what it would be like if I hadn't moved here because I lived in a place called Benicia in California! I asked myself would I still have a house or not.

  3. I read the article,"Fighting the Flames". It was published on September 11, 2009. Because of dry air and hot temperatures, many wild firs are forming in Southern California. A girl spotted a wild fire that was in the mountains in Station Fire. It spread quickly because of the dried trees, dry air and hot temperatures. Thousands of fire fighters are working together to fight the fire and save lives of plants, animals, and people. Many houses were destroyed. It is amazing that a wild fire can spread that far. The fire fighters have great team work working together to put out the fires to protect us.

  5. I read the article, "The Hunt for Pythons" written by Tim Padgett. The article was published September 4, 2009. This article explained the problem of Southeast Asian snakes threatening the native wildlife of Florida's Everglades. It is believed that there are as many as 150,000 of these snakes living in Everglades National Park. The snakes, which include Burmese pythons, come from pet owners who can't take care of these large reptiles. Once they are out in the wild they eat mammals, birds and other reptiles. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation is working to control the population through hunting the pythons. After reading this article I think that we should continue to lower the population of non-native snakes in order to keep endangered species safe.

  7. I read the article, "Fighting the Flames" written by Suzanne Zimbler. It was published on September 11, 2009. This article is about the wildfire situation in the state of California. The wildfires are caused by dry, hot air and high temperatures. The wildfires threaten wildlife, forests, homes and citizens. Thousands of firefighters are working to control the fires using many tools. The firefighters clear brush away with shovels and axes. They also use air tankers and helicopters to dump water and firefighting chemicals from above. California's governor, Arnold Schwarenegger, has reassured residents that the firefighters are well-trained and very brave. I think that it is good that California's firefighters are helping to put out these terrible fires. I think it would be a very scary situation if I lived near the fires or was a firefighter fighting these fires.

  8. I read the article, " The Hunt for Pythons" It was published on September 4, 2009. The article states that the pythons are challenging the top of the food chain. They are eating too much and it is not natural for them. Because of over populated pythons on July 17, the FWC allowed people to hunt pythons with a licence. The Everglades have a perfect habitat for Burmese pythons. Pythons prey on mammals, birds, and some reptiles. A 20 inch baby snake can grow to 8 feet long; adults can grow to 20 feet long!I think it is amazing that male pythons can grow up to almost 200lbs, and females can grow up to 100lbs. This article taught me a lot of interesting facts that I never knew. I have learned that I don't need to be afraid of a python, because they will not harm you unless you threaten them.:)

  9. The article, "Fighting the Flames" was written by Suzanne Zimbler, published on September 11, 2009. This article is about wildfires in California. The cause of the wild fires are dead trees, dry hot air, and the high tempatures. The firefighters were only able to contain 38% of the fire by Thursday. Thousands of Californians had to wait to return home. The California's govener, Arnold Schwarzenegger reassured residents that the firefighters were well trained and very brave. I think wild fires are scary and I would not want to live where there's always a chance of a wild fire.
In the article, "Eye one the Sky" written by Andrea Delbanco, published in Sectember 25, 2009. The Hubble space telescope was broken and had to get a $1 billion repair. The space telescope was broken and the crew had to fix it. After it was repaired, there were new pictures released by NASA and they revealed amazing pictures of space. They got close up pictures of stars being born. When I looked at the pictures, I thought, "wow! The picture of the star being born looks so cool!" I was thinking the same thing when I looked at the dying star that looked like a butterfly. If they hadn't fix the Hubble space telescope, they wouldn't have gotten such great pictures.

  10. I read the article Eye in The Sky by Andrea Delbanco. It was published on September 25, 2009.I learned that a telescope in the sky broke and astronauts were sent up there to fix it. This telescope is very important because it is human's best view into outer space. It can now send back the best photos of planets, galaxies and nebulas. Scientists are hoping that this will last for the next decade. I am surprised that this telescope can send back picture of the universe. I think the Hubble telescope will help us learn more about our universe.

The second article I read was The Hunt for Pythons by Tim Padgett. It was published on September 4, 2009. These pythons moved here from Southern Asia to Everglades National Park in Florida. On August 29 the FWC was selling snake-capturing permits only to reptile experts. Last year, sales of pythons reached up to 10 million dollars. So often python owners realize that they can not care for the large animals so they throw them in the wilderness. As of August 21, 12 Burmese pythons were killed by python hunters. I am so surprised that pythons can get from Asia to Florida because Asia is on a different side of the ocean than Florida. I think pythons, like all other wild animals should be left in the wild and not kept as pets!

  11. I read the article "A Justice Like No Other" by Brenda Iasevoli. zit was published on September 18, 2009. Sonia Sotomayor was sworn in as the 111th U.S. Supreme Court Justice. SHe is the first Hispanic American to serve on the highest court. She was born on June 24, 1954, she graduated from Princeton University. I think that she will be a good person to be on the Supreme Court Justice.

  12. I read an article called "Eye in the Sky" by Andrea Delbanco. It is telling us about a telescope in space that takes pictures. The scientists just did a billion dollar repair mission to make the telescope have more clear pictures They now believe that the telescope is now in the best shape it has ever been in.

  13. The first article I read was "The Hunt For Pythons" by Tim Padgett/Everglades national Park. the article was published on September 4th, 2009. this article is about how large snakes, like Pythons, are surrounding ares of the Everglades National Park. There are so many snakes because last year a lot of people had snakes as pets and when the snakes got too big to take care of they would dump them in the wild. Female pythons can lay as many as 100 eggs at a time. With so many eggs being laid there are a lot of snakes roaming around. The FWC ( Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation ) is making an effort to hunt down these snakes before they wipe out endangered species.
I thought this article was very interesting because I never knew that there were so many snakes because I never ever see them anywhere. I also liked this article because it taught me some cool facts like how and snake ate a six-foot alligator.

The next article I read was " Eye on The Sky" by Andrea Delbanco. This article was published on September 25th, 2009. This article is about how NASA repaired a telescope by putting in new cameras and fixing broken parts. They spent $1 billion dollars on this and it took them 13 days to repair. They call it the Hubble. It orbits around our planet every 97 minuets and takes photos. They say its mission is to create a picture-perfect portrait of our universe.
I thought this article was truly amazing because such a small thing can do so much. I think the most interesting part was the pictures because they are so clear. I never knew they had to spend so much money on something like this. The cameras take really awesome photographs. I can't wait to see more of the pictures that come out.

The first one i read was the hunt fore pythons -Tim Padget these python hunters are catching pythons. some people would sell the pythons to other peopleand these people never new how big these reptiles can get so whene they get to big they would realeas them into the wiled. I think that if the population of these pythons wold go to endangerd then we would not have these cool pythons.

Thousands of firefighters fight the fire and have 38% of the fire out. It was the largest fire in California. The fire started on August 26th near Los Angeles. Helicopters and air tankers drop water and fire fighting liquid. The firefighters contained the fire. My opinion is that I was amazed to hear that firefighters could fight that big of a fire. I think firefighters are very brave!

  18. I read an article named "Fighting the Flames", by Suzanne Zimbler. It was published on September 11, 2009. This article is about the wildfires in California and what homeowners, firefighters, and the governor Arnold Schwarzenegger do about the wildfires. The wildfires are fueled by dry air, hot tempetures and dead trees and leaves. More than 60 homes had burned down because of the wildfires. Also 219 of forest had been burned. I think is important to learn what to do in case of fire, because we can get on panic and get hurt or cause a mayor damage. I liked when the governor said "We are fortunate to have the best-trained firefigthers in the world" because they really take their job seriously and they are very brave.

The second article I read was "A Justice Like no Other" by Brenda Iasevoli. It was published on September 18, 2009. Also she is the third woman to serve on the nation's top court in its 220 years of history. She gaduated from Princeton University and got a degree from Yale Law School.
I think Sonia Sotomayor put alot of effort to be part of the Supreme Court and she will be good on her job because she has a degree and experience.

  20. I read an article called "A Tasty Tale" by Vickie An. The voice of Flint which is the main character of ''Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'' is Bill Hader. I think this article was very interesting and funny! Out of all of the Time for Kids article this was the best. The movie is about a boy named Flint Lockwood who's mom dies. Then he makes an amazing invention that makes water into all kinds of food. i like how the directors said that it was hard to make the cheeseburgers look real. It was really cool and it made me want to see the movie over and over again!
The second and last article I read was ''Schools Gear Up for the Flu'' which was also written by Vickie An. When I first read this article I was amazed! There is 160,000 people who have this flu now according to the World Health Organization. I thought it was interesting that H1N1 virus is also another name for the swine flu. But H1N1 is no stronger than a normal seasonal flu. Also when I read this article I noticed how much everyone really needs to wash there hands well, cover your mouths, and don't get close to anyone who is sick.

  21. I read "Fighting the flames" by Suzanne Zimbler. I think that the article tells exactly what is going on.

I also read "Shcools gear up for the flu" I was shocked how bad it was. 160 thousand people have the swine flu! That's a lot!

The other article I read was about the big garbage patch. This article is about tons of garbage ending up on the beach. People are really lazy and leave their garbage in places and they get washed away and when people send a message in a bottle it stays in the middle of the ocean.

  27. The first article I read was A Tasty Tale , by Vickie An and the publishing date was September 11th, 2009. It is about Flint Lockwood the star in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movie. The actor that plays Flint is the comedian Bill Hader. Flint dreamed about creating something that could help people, but all of his previous creations failed. He couldn’t wait to show off his new creation, an invention that turns water into food. Flint’s invention destroys the town square so he decides to quit, until cheese burgers started falling from the sky. Then everyone in the city starts ordering their favorite foods. The article doesn’t tell us how it ends, so I want to go see it. I liked this article because it is so unrealistic, but to think that food can fall from the sky is amazing. I enjoyed reading A Tasty Tale.

  28. The second article I read was The Big Garbage Pile, by Bryan Walsh ,and the publishing date was September 25, 2009. This is about how there is a garbage pile floating in the middle of the Pacific ocean. All of the garbage that has been dropped all landed in one spot of the biggest ocean. The size of the garbage pile is about twice the size of Texas. No government has been willing to clean it up. So we need to stop adding to it by picking up our garbage and recycling. To stop this tragic waste dump we should start reusing things that can be reused, recycling things the need to be recycled, and reducing things that need to be reduced. Garbage can’t just disappear, so we have to do something about it. My favorite quote and advice was when they were talking about not throwing away plastic in our garbage: “This is something everyone can see, touch, and make a difference.”

  29. One of the topics I did was the "Schools Gear Up for the Flu!" It is very important. In this section, teachers and principles are planning to give each kid a flu shot. They are very cautious because there's another flu called H1N1. The first person they heard who got it was in March in Mexico and now there are more then 160,000 people who caught it. They are making the H1N1 vaccines now and it won't be out until mid-October. So always remember to wash your hands anytime you can! I think If you don't stay careful and wash your hands, it may affect you harshly.
The other topic I want to show you is called "Small but Fierce." When you think of T-rex what goes around in your head? Huge, mean, powerful, the leader? Well the scientist, Paul Sereno found any amazing discovery. It's called a Raptorex and it's the same thing as a T-rex, but a 100 times smaller. It lived about 125 million years ago. Tens of millions of years before the big T-rex. It tells scientist how much larger tyrannosaurs evolved from smaller species. I think it's awesome how they found another dino fossil. Now we will know a lot more about dinosaurs!

  30. I read the article "The Hunt for Pythons" by Tim Padgett. It was published on September 4, 2009.
This article is about pythons who were being relised into the wild by people and are threatining Florda's endangered animals. They think about 150,000 pythons are in the everglades right now and they have to move the snakes to a new habitat. I think that Padgett could have put in a little more detail in the article but I think it will convince readers not to let their unwanted pets into the wild. I would rate this article 6 out of 10.

I also read "Fighting the Flames" by Suzianne Zimbler. This article is about a wildfire named the Station Fire. It was burning a landscape that haden't burned in 40 years. 12,000 structures were threatened by this speedy nightmere. I think that this article tells you lots about wild fires and it hooks you at the begining. I would rate this article 9 out of 10.

Then when was 14, he started learning to race. He has a brother that also races. Now he owns his own NASCAR company. I enjoyed reading this article.
The second article I read was "Should Kids go to School Year Round?". One kid from New York said No, because kids do sports in the summer and they burn calories. With school year round, kids wouldn't be able to do a lot of sports then they wouldn't be healthy. One kid from New Jersey, said yes, because you lose a lot of knowledge over the summer break.

She was the first Hispanic American and was also the third woman to be in the Supreme court. Her first argument was the day after taking her oath. Barrack Obama nominated Sonia to be in the Supreme court, in May. I think this is a good article becasue it tells you that if you stick to it anything is possiable.

I read the article "The Hunt for Pythons" by Tim Padgett/Everglades National Park. This article was publised September 4, 2009. In this article Time For Kids talks about Pyothons in the Everdlades National Park in Flordia. Ron Bergeron is 1 of the people on the look out for pythons. There are 150,000 pythons throghout the Everglades National Park. These pythons are a danger because they are eating endagered species. My opinion about this article is that these a fair amount of this pythons should be captured so they don't hert the endagered species.

  35. The name of one of the articles I read was California’s Wildfires. By Suzzanne Zimbler. Published in Dallas Texas, September 2009. This article was about all the wildfires in California this particular wildfire was named the station fire because it started just outside of a ranger station. In this article there is a girl that looked out of her window and spotted a big tower of smoke. She told her parents and they went off to an evacuation center were they stayed for the next 2 weeks. The reason the station fire was such a bad fire is because it occurred in a place that had never had a forest fire before so the place was extra dry. Once the Fire was put out California’s state governor Arnold Schwarzenegger made a speech about how brave their firefighters were.

The second article I read was called New Views from Deep Space. By Andrea Delbanco. Published in Dallas Texas, September 2009.This article was about NASA’s repaired space telescope. When the telescope was launched into space from a space shuttle it didn’t work very well. But with all its repairs and makeovers the space telescope is doing great. The telescope can now take really sharp images of faraway planets and stars. NASA has big plans for the new telescope in the future NASA plans to make it so the telescope can take pictures of faraway galaxies.

The Hubble was launched into space in 1990. The Hubble is 350 miles above Earth. It orbits the planet once every 97 minutes. The Hubble's job is to take pictures of the universe.

This article was very cool to read because I saw the shuttle take off when I was in Florida last May. The shuttle went up and repaired the Hubble Space Telescope.

It is very important that the Telescope was fixed so it could take pictures of our solar system and more distant worlds.

  37. I read the article "A Justice Like No Other" by Brenda Iasevoli. It was published on September 18, 2009. In this article, TFK talks about a woman named Sonia Sotomayor. She is the first Hispanic American and the third woman to serve on the nation's highest top court on its 220-year history. President Barack Obama nominated Sonia to be the Supreme Court in May. This article talks about Sotomayor's job and how well she is doing this career, considering to be the first Hispanic American to join Supreme Court. I really enjoyed reading this article because I was surprised that this was our first Hispanic American judge. I also agree with #8 about sticking to something, if you do it right, you can always get it done.

For fun, the second article I read was "A Tasty Tale" by Vickie An. This article was published on September 11, 2009. TFK talks about this mouthwatering movie, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Flint, a scientist with the voice of Bill Hader, makes an invention to make food fall from the sky. But when there are too many orders for food, things take a turn for the worst. Will it have to stay this way forever? Find out in this all new movie, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. I really enjoyed this article and decided to read it because I have read and seen the movie. I prefer the book over the movie because the movie was based very very loosely on the book. I enjoyed this article and I hope others read it too.

An astronaut went to repair it for $1,000,000,000 and since then the pictures are almost perfect. Hubble is three thousand miles away from the earth. One of the pictures was created by dust and by hot gases. My opinion is that I think it is cool how far out Hubble is and it still is not crushed.

I think it is amazing how fast the fire spreads.

This article talks about H1N1 (the swine flu) is spreading all over. It talks about schools should always have soap dispensers people say it is so simple but it works. schools all over are doing thhis also they are haveing clinics use shots to prevent H1N1 from happening. these shots are from the goverment and will be used on kids first.I loved this articlre and I think you would to.

  40. Snakes indigenous to South Asia are devastating Florida. According to the article "The Hunt for Pythons", written by Tim Padgett, and published on September 4, 2009, when these common house pets grow too large, their owners release them into the wild land. Those same Pythons them destroy the natural environment around them. Because these sinister snakes are apex predators in this new habitat, they thrive, and make the endangered species of the Everglades National Park even more endangered. Also, partly due to the fact that some females can lay 100 eggs, the population of the snakes has skyrocketed to 150,000. That makes people take action. Florida has issued its first snake hunting permits in years. People are encouraged to hunt and kill the unwanted intruders. My opinion of this article is that the people are making the right decision and that the snakes should be killed. They are a menace that should be defeated.

On the other side of the United States, wildfires are tearing through California. The article "Fighting the Flames", written by Suzianne Zimbler, and published on September 11, 2009, is about many fires breaking out in California, and the great efforts given to stop them. As those fires spread, it puts more and more people at risk. But many brave firemen are giving great efforts to stop them. They have secured some of the fires, but others still rage. But, despite the horrible odds, the firemen's spirits are as hot and powerful as the blazes they are fighting. They’ll make those walls of fire stop in their tracks. I think the fire fighters are very brave and selfless to put themselves at risk to save others.

  41. In the article,The Hunt For The Pythons by Tim Padgett was awesome. It is about Pythons. They can lay up to 100 eggs.Pythons can wiegh up to 200 pounds. There babies can be as tall as 8 feet and a grownup can be as tall as 20 feet. People have been killing Pythons. One time a 13 foot Python ate a 6 foot Alligator. My opinion is I think it is cool homuch a Python can wiegh and how tall they get.

  42. I read “The Hunt for Pythons” by Tim Padgett. The date published was September 4th, 2009. This article informed me that the python population in Florida is too high. This happened because when peoples’ pet pythons grow too big, they sent them out into the wild because they can no longer care for them. The “pet” pythons are repopulating and there are now so many that Florida’s native animals are growing scarce. People have started hunting the pythons to solve the problem. I liked this article because I didn’t realize the impact that adding new animals to an ecosystem could have.

I also read “Eye on the Sky” by Andrea Delbanco. The date this article was published was September 24th, 2009. This article was about how the Hubble space telescope was given a makeover and now takes pictures of beautiful sites in deep space. These pictures also include important information about stars and planets. I liked this article because it was really interesting how a telescope could give us so much information.
