Why Move?

Why Move?

This may seem like a simple question this week, but I want you to think deeply about the answer and provide an example. Talk to your parents or another adult about these questions before posting your reply. Stretch your thinking.

Why do people move?
Why do people leave home?

Please make sure your answer includes specific examples and is at least one paragraph long.

  1. People move to different places because they either want different scenery, a different climate, a new job, or the place they're moving to has something that the person wants.
Scenery is the least common reason for moving. You just accept that you have either bad or great scenary once you get there. Moving to a place to get something you want is just a more common reason. Sometimes that something you want can be family. People move a lot to be closer to family. A different climate may also be another reason that people move. For instance, one of the reasons people move to California is it is sunny there and people like sun. People also move to go to college because the schools they want to go to are far away. Usually, the reason for moving is when a parent gets a new and better job. Because of our bad economy, people are trying their best to get the right job for themselves. It is hard for children to move to a different place because just like that, they lose friends. Sometimes it is easy to make new friends in a new place. Sometimes it is not. It is very tough for kids to make changes that fast and sometimes they get angry but in the end they do make friends and they change their attitude completely.

  2. People move for different reasons. They might have a new job or might have broken up with their wife or husband. People will move because they want to learn about the world.

Some people move because they want to move away from their family like my mom did for college. Some people move because they want to live near family members. Some people move because their family members might be dying. Scientists go to different countries because they want to explore the world. The exploration might be a month or more, so in order to be more comfortable, they move to that area they are exploring. The scientist might buy a house if they like the scenery. Some people might move because of the climate. The most common reason why people move is because they need jobs. My dad had a job in California and was offered a job move to Washington. Our family moved. Then my dad almost got a job back in California, so we thought we’d have to move back to California. Then my dad found a job here, so we stayed.

Some couples move because they break up, then that person would have to buy a new house. Some people will go to college when they grow up so they might move to a university in another state. For adults, the moving isn’t a big fuss for them. But for kids, we hate it when we move because our friends stay behind and we want to be with them. Though we move away from our friends, we make new friends. I think moving is sometimes for the better.

  3. People move for many different reasons. They could have gotten a job in a different state (like my dad did). People go to colleges in a different state and then settle there. Older people (like retirement old) might want to move closer to family (like my grandparents are doing) or maybe people move away from their family because they are ready to start their lives away from family members.

I have noticed a pattern; kids have no power whatsoever at all when their family is moving. I find this pattern both relieving and annoying.
Why do I find it reliving that kids have no power when it comes to moving? Moving is something that takes some time and costs a lot of money. Like if you can't sell your house, it’s hard to move. If you can't find a house, it’s hard to move. It’s a big decision and I wouldn’t want to be the one to make that decision. It’s a lot of pressure.

Why do I find moving annoying? Well ask yourself the following questions:
What if I don't want to move?
What if I don't want to leave all my friends?
What if I don't want to change schools?
I recently moved and found these things annoying. It’s hard to not have power over your own life.

Unfortunately US KIDS have no power over moving, which I don’t like, BUT my parents were right and I enjoy living in Seattle and moving turned out to be a good event for me.

  4. People move for many reasons, for instance like maybe it just don’t feel right or comfortable where they are now. Or maybe the people have too much space in their house or their house is to small. Another reason why most people move is because of jobs. A job could get relocated and in order to keep it the person or people would have to move. To much money is also a part of moving. If you pay lets say 25,000,000 dollars for a house that has a giant back yard that you don’t even use, you would probably move to a house that has a small back yard and you could pay less, like 15,000,000. That would be 10,000,000 dollars less!! For most people it is hard to move and to leave home but they do it maybe because they want to, but most of the time because it is better for the person or people. For most of the reasons above.
Also after kids move to a new place with their parents they will ask questions like why did I move? Why couldn’t I stay with my friends? Most kids have no control over moving it is all up to their parents. Another question is why did my parents pick here to live? Am I going to have a good part of my life here? What are the people here like? Where will I go to school? I know that most kids feel stressed about moving so parents try to make it easy on them.
If you are an adult moving away from you home town how would you feel? Would you be asking basically the same questions as you kids? The difference is you have mostly all of the control, they have none. That is unless you are getting kicked out of your house to live on the streets. It is completely your decision where you move, like which country, state, city, and house. Who you want to keep in touch with? was this a smart idea? How long will it take to get to my job? How is this going to effect my life? Was this financially safe, and other things like that. You could have totally different questions.

  5. Many families move because of the bad economy. They would have to move because they can not afford the place they are living. Because of that, they have to sell their house and move to a cheaper house or cheaper area. Sometimes families have to move because their job moves them to a new area. My dad is a great example of this. For his job, he has moved to Phoenix, Los Alamos, New Mexico, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, France, Seattle and now Iowa. Another reason people move is to see the world. My mom moved to Mexico and to France, so she could experience other cultures, learn another language and see the places she had read about. Another reason people move is to live in different climates. For example, some people from Seattle might move to Phoenix if they like warmer climates or to Alaska if they like cold climates. I also think some people move just because they feel like moving. I think this is the wrong thing to do, because it takes a lot of time and money.

Leaving home is different than moving. To me, leaving home is when a young adult decides to leave his parent's home. This usually happens when a person graduates from high school and leaves to go to college. Both of my cousins just moved out of my aunt's house to go to college. Sometimes people love where they live once they move and decide to stay there. Other times, they don't. In the end, I think you always just know where you should be.

  6. I agree with #25 because I moved here in first grade. At first, I was pretty angry with my parents but then I made friends with kids who I wouldn't have met if I hadn't moved. That was the first time I realized moving here was the right decision and now, I am happy I live here.

  7. There are a million reasons why people may move. People may not like the house they are living in. It may be too big or too small. The house might be too expensive to pay for. People sometimes need to move because they need or want a new job in a different area. People may move because they dislike the weather in a certain part of the country. Finally, people may move because they want to be closer to their family.

Our family moved to Washington two years ago to start a new business. It was hard to move at first but once I got to know people it became really fun here.

Why people leave home is another question. The main thing I think about when I hear about leaving home is when someone goes away to college. You might decide to go to a university in a different city or state.

My Mom came to Washington from New Mexico to go to Washington State University. She had to leave home.

  10. People move for many different reasons. One of the reasons somebody might move is because of a job. If you have a job, you have that job for a reason. Maybe it is to support your family. If you have to move because of a job its because thats how you make a living. Another reason why someone might move is if you want to be closer to your family. My family is really special and they mean a lot to me. Some people might feel the same way.

Some people might leave home because of college. Many people follow their dreams and sometimes you may have to go to special colleges to teach you that stuff. The college i want to go to is in New York but once i am done with college I will probably go back to my home. My dad had to leave his home to go to college. His college wasn't that far away, but he still had to leave his family so he could get an education. I think that people could also leave their homes to go to a hospital. If someone is really sick or pregnant there may nit be good hospitals in their area, so they my have to leave their homes for that reason. I think there are many reasons why people will move.

  11. There are many reasons why people would have to move. I almost had to move in first grade because my dad got a great job in California. Another reason people would go is because they just do not like the place and it has a bad economy. People move because they are just tired of the place. Some people have to move for college. Fortunatly my sister didn't have to leave because she is going to UW. On the other hand my sisters roomate came from Colorodo. Maybe you have to move because your dad's or mom's mom or dad is old and you want to live near them because you moved away a long time ago. That is what happened to my next door neighbors that I have known my whole entire life. Some people might move because of a divorce. I know someone whos parents got divorced and his dad moved away, but not to another state. A lot of people move because where they are living is too expensive and they can't pay the taxes. I think that people have good reasons to move some place else.

  12. Throughout history people have moved for many reasons. For example, I think Native Americans moved because they needed better resources to live off. Or they might have needed a warmer or cooler environment. Or maybe there were a lot of enemy tribes around their area and that tribe wanted peace. Then in the years when the settlers came to America I think the settler moved to get a life where they were more free to do things like vote for the president.
Now in 2009 I think people move for different kinds of reasons. For example they might move for a change in the scenery because they want to live somewhere where they can do a hobby. Some people move to places where there is snow because they like skiing. Or they move because they don’t like the weather because they need a place that is cooler because of their health. Or they move because they don’t like the laws or the governor who makes the laws. Those are the reasons I think people move. But if you compare them they are mostly about getting a better life.

  13. People move for many different reasons. Native Americans moved because they were following the big game. They might have moved because there was not enough food, They might need a better climate to live in. In the time of the pioneers they might have moved to reservations, or even to escape the government. Now, I think that people probably move for different reasons. I moved here to Washington because of my mom's job. Some people move to places that they like to live in. Maybe Colorado because you like to ski or snowboard. Maybe New York City because you like the city. Maybe some place like Arizona because you like the hot weather. Some one might move because they think that they can go hiking or explore.
There many reasons that people move, but where ever they go it is because they want something new.

  14. There are many reasons people move. One of them is to have some excitement by going to fun places. If you go to an exciting place you can go to new fun places and you can meet new people. Another reason is if you get transferred from an old job to a new job. People may move because their house has a lot of problems and they want to live in a more comfortable home. People also move because they want to be with their friends and family in another state or country or if they want a bigger or smaller home.

People would leave home because they got married and want to move to a new place. Another reason is if you and your wife have a fight and you want to move to a new house. I have a few friends who had that happen to them.
You would leave home if you go to college and live at the school. In the past there were a lot of wars going on. People had to leave their homes because it was dangerous to stay because they could have died.

  15. I think people move, because people get a new job or they need more or less space in their house. Also because of the climate, to be closer to their family or maybe they want to live somewhere in the world were they think it is a better way to live and raise their children.

I think is hard to move, because you have to leave your friends, family, house and all the things you used to do. My parents moved from Mexico to Virginia, and it was hard for them, because they had to learn English and my mom was pregnant. At the beginning, they didn't know anyone and how things worked (like doctor's appointments).

At the same time, I think is nice to be in other places, because you know how people live in other cities, make new friends and have a kind of a new adventure.

In my first three years of life, I moved to seven different houses. I was born in Virginia and my parents met my godparents over there. Then my family moved to Mexico and then to Seattle. I still remember the park close to my home in Monterrey, Mexico, my little school, my friends and the food. Also I have been in places, like Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, Miami, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, because my dad traveled a lot, and my mom and me went with him and we had a lot of fun.

I think some people leave home because they want to have new experiences, get a a new job, go to college, get married or just because they want to have more privacy and freedom. I think if you have the opportunity to move or visit another place you have to do it. And one day find a place to stay, for along time.

  16. "Moving"

I think that people move because they get bord with their house. Or if they want to try a new country or state. Native Americans moved because somthing bad happend. Or if they ran out of food.

People leave home because they want to leave that place or because they do not like somthing.
But Native Americans usually dont want to move but if they have to then they will.

  17. I think people move for different reasons. One of the reasons is that some families get offered a good job somewhere else. Sometimes houses become too big or too small for a family, so they have to move. Also people just don't like their house anymore and they get a new house. My last reason is that families change. For example; a baby might be born, parents might get divorced, or someone might die. My grandparents moved to Seattle to support my family when we needed it.

I think it would be hard to move. You would be leaving all of your friends and family, then on top of that you would have to start all over in a new place. The only time I have moved was when I was a baby. I do not want to move any time soon. Moving is hard on the whole family.

  18. There are many reasons why people move. One is they are bored of where they live. Maybe your mom or dad might have gotten moved because of their job. Also you might have heard of a better place. An example is when pioneers went West because they heard they would have a better life. Or your grandparents might want to live closer to you.

We moved to Washington from Ontario, Canada because of my dad's job. I was three when we moved and after 3 years in our house we learned there was a better neighborhood where I could walk to school, so then we moved again.

Many people leave home to go to college at 18; but what I think is interesting is that my grandpa left home at age 18 but he didn't go to college. My grandpa moved because he was escaping during the 1956 revolution in Hungary. He didn't even tell his mom! He just went to go buy a winter coat with some money he earned, and while walking there some one was calling out “Do he want to see the world?" His friends were going and he decided to go too. To get out of the country you needed to sneak over the border illegally. He made over but many people died trying to cross the border. While doing this his mom assumed he went with the crowd and every night his mom listened on the radio to see if his name was said because if he made it to a refugee camp in Austria they would broadcast the people’s names that got there safe. My grandpa got to Cleveland, Ohio and didn't go back to Hungary until 9 years later.
My grandma didn’t leave during the revolution because her brother didn’t go and she didn’t want to go by herself. She went to the protest on the first day. My grandma was there when there was only 10 people! My grandma said that over a thousand people were there in a half of an hour, and she got a slip of paper what to say and almost everyone in Hungary was there.

The revolution was a pretty scary time because the people didn't like the government and they wanted a new government. It was a dangerous and crazy place in Hungary at that time. Many people were sent to prison because they were saying bad things about the government. We could scream on the top of our lungs “Obama is the worst president” (I don't think that though), but if you said something like that in Hungary you could get put in prison.
The 53rd anniversary of the 1956 revolution was October 23rd.

  19. I think that people move because they are getting a new job somewhere else or because they want to get a better house or move to a better area. One time my dad moved across the street just because they liked the house better.

I think that people leave home because they go to college. A second reason could be that you want to go out on your own and be free. A third reason could be when you get married or if you get kicked out of your house.

  20. I think people move because they want to have a better life. People move to have new jobs, to be closer to families, the weather isn’t good, or for many other different reasons.

When my mom and dad were little, their families immigrated to the United States from Taiwan. They moved to the United States to have the American Dream. What is the American dream? Well, it is being free, and having opportunities. It means to have jobs, believe in what you want to believe in, and to have better education, and overall to have a better life. Later my parents moved from Boston to California so they could be closer to family. Because Los Angeles was too hot, too crowded, and the air too polluted, they moved to San Francisco. After my sister and I were born, San Francisco became too expensive for us to buy a new home so we moved here to Seattle. We have a nice home; it’s less crowded; there is a lot of beautiful scenery, and a lot of activities to do.

Now that we are settled and happy with where we are, hopefully we won’t have to move for a very long time.

  22. Why move? Why not just stay home?
People move for many reasons. Sometimes they move because they either get a new job, find better opportunities/education, they want to move to a place with different climate, or different scenery. An example is when my good friend in my neighborhood moved. Her dad found a better job in Florida so he took the offer and he moved his family to Orlando. Of course I was devastated, but I understood that this decision was best for their family, like many other families. This next example is also an example for opportunity but in this case, it was more a matter of life and death. Many people moved because of a war and dangerous situations in their country. For example, 30 years ago, after the Vietnam War, my family became refugees when they all escaped from Vietnam. This was considered a move but sadly it was heartbreaking for them because they were leaving their beloved homeland. Lastly, another reason for moving is the enjoyment of a different scenery. My friend’s grandfather sold his house in Renton and moved to sunny Mexico. He doesn’t miss the rain and cold weather here and thoroughly enjoys Mexico’s sunny, warm climate.
Even though I’ve lived my entire life in Washington State I might consider moving someday…..

  23. There are many reasons why a family will move. For example, a family might move because their mother or father lost their job and need a new one. Or they might move because their house is costing them to much money and they need to more so they can have something more in their budget Lastly, someone might move becasue they don't like the school district and they want a better school district for their kids.

There are many diferent reasons someone might leave there home her are a few. First, a couple might breakup and one of them stays in the house and the other moves out to a different house. Another thing is that a family might move but want to keep their house so they can come back and visit. The last thing is that you may just be going on a trip and you have to leave their house but they are going to return. This is some reasons someone will leave their home.

  24. People move for many different reasons. Here are just a few. Some get in a devorce and one of them moves to a different house. Another reason is becouse of jobs. Some jobs make people move around a lot. Other people have to move becouse they get fired and they can't find a job in the area. Or possibly across the street from somone's house a dump was being build and it diden't exacly smell or look wonderfull. Than that would be a good reason to move! The reason I moved to Washington was becouse of my dad's job and all my relitives live here. The other place that we could've moved to was Arizona becouse there was an opening for my dad's job there too, but all my relitives lived here.

  25. There are several reasons why people move following are some of the reason. Someone may move because their job may make them move and if they don't move they may loose their job. Another reason may be because their house is too small and they need additional bedrooms and space. Some people may move to live closer to their family. In addition, some people may move as they change companies and their new job is located in another city or state. My family moved to Sammamish three years ago because my mom's company transferred our family to Seattle. When I was born my parents bought a larger home as the home they were in was too small for a family with two children. A reason people leave the house is to go to college or they may be moving out of their house.

  26. I think people move or leave for different reasons depending on their age. When children are younger, I believe people move because their parents lose their jobs and must relocate to stay employed. They want either bigger houses, or smaller houses that are less expensive. I believe when they get older and leave home, it is because they want to see the world and experience everything life has to offer. If people didn’t move or leave and stay resident their whole life then they would never learn independence. If the eagles never grew and left their nests, the eagle population would cease to exist. This would be true for the human population, too. Having the right to not be a permanent resident in a said place is a human right, and leaving home is part of freedom. Freedom should be cherished because it is as good as life itself.

  27. There are many reasons why people move. People we know have moved because their jobs get transferred. This happened to my dad and our family moved from California to here.

Other people move for educational purposes, like my friend Heather who moved to London for graduate school and also because her boyfriend lives there. So some people move for love.

Some people move when they are empty nesters. First of all they don't need such a big house now because their kids are gone. Also they probably need a rest after raising kids which is stressful. My grandparents go to Florida two months a year to get away from cold Minnesota.

People leave home for lots of reasons. Some people move because of war like the children in England in World War II or our friend Arok who is one of the lost boys of Sudan. Other people leave home because they want a new life, like immigrants in the Victorian times. When people grow up and get married they leave home and move to a new house. (The lucky ones that didn't end up in their parents' basement ;.))

I am sad that my friend Carly went off to college. That is another reason why you leave your home. But her home is still Sammamish. (Just like it is mine!)

  28. People move for many reasons. Some of the reason are: better weather, better jobs, closer to family, and easier to buy a house. When I was two years old we moved to Washington from Los Angeles. My dad's company shut down and my mom's family lived in Wenatchee. She asked my dad if he was open to moving to Washington. He said yes. He got a job in Bellevue and we moved to Kirkland. When I was four years old my parents found a house in Issaqauah. Last year we found a bigger house at a great price and bought a house in Trossachs.

People move from their homes for many resons: because they need their own space, they want be on their own. When my dad graduated from college he moved to Los Angeles from San Francisco to make it on his own. My mom's parents moved to Wenatchee from Los Angeles when she was 21 years old but she decided to stay in Los Angeles. I'm glad that my mom and dad decided to stay in Los Angeles because they met each other in Los Angeles. If they didn't met each other I would not be here.

  29. People move one reason because of educational purposes or work. It is hard, I have moved before and it could be work and that you have to move. People could move because they want to. They maybe want to get away but if you want to get away you could just go on a vacation.
When I moved away all of my friends missed me and wanted me to go back. It is hard to move but some people have to or they want to and after all it is hard to move. But your home is always your home.

  30. when I read this question I had to think very hard. I found out that there are lots of ways that people might have to move. One way is that some times people get fired or laid off and have to move to get a new job. Another way is people some times get devorced :( and and have to move away from each other. One last way is that maybe your haose lights on fire and you move because you dont want some one to repair it. Like I said their is lots of ways that people but that was a few

  31. People move for lots of different reasons. For example there's a lot of people that have to move because of jobs. You can get fired from a job and have to find a new job and the only opening is in a different state. Another reason why is because of divorces. When people get a divorce, one of them usually has to find a new house. There is two more reasons I can think of and one of them is when people can't pay off their debt for their house and have to find a new place that's less expensive. The last reason I know is because of fires. When people aren't careful enough and catch something on fire and causes a huge fire that's out of control. There house turns into firewood and they would probably want to find a new house as soon as possible(ASAP). I have an example. My friends, that were really close to my family, had to move because of their grandparents that were sick. They passed away and their thinking of moving back now but as I said, there is a lot of different reasons why people have to move. Those are just a couple of reasons but I'm sure there are many more.
