How Do I Look?

Imagine you live on a far away, remote Caribbean island 400 years ago. You are so curious to know what you look like, however, there are no mirrors, no glass, no cameras, no pencils. Think of three ways you might try to find out how you look. Remember to explain your thinking clearly in at least one complete paragraph.

  1. One way I would try to find out is to ask someone near me. You could look into the water and see your reflection. If there was some wet sand that you could some how stick your face in it and see what you look like.

  2. To accomplish this objective, I would first look in the water and see my reflection. Also, I could ask someone to draw with a stick what I looked like. Finally, I could find some clay or mud, make sure it is wet, and put it on my face like it is a mold. I would wait for it to dry and then take it off. These are three ways to find out how I looked.

  3. To see how you look first you could look in the reflection of the water like it is a moving mirror.
Second, you could ask someone on the island and they could tell you how you look.
Or, you could ask someone to mold you or daw a picture on the ground of you with a stick. Those are three very interesting ways of trying to see what you look like.

  4. In order to see what I look like, I would look in the water. Water is just like looking in a mirror. You can also ask a family member or someone close by. Another way is to ask someone to draw what you might look like with a stick or a twig on the sand. Without a mirror, cameras, and glass, this is a hard thing to do but if you have water, and people nearby it's much easier to see what you look like.

  6. I cannot imagine how it would feel to not know how I look. If I were on an Island without mirrors, glass, or pencils and paper. The first thing I would try is looking at my reflection in water. Then I would probably ask someone to draw a picture of me in the sand with a stick. After that I would probably ask some one to describe to me what I looked like.

  7. If I wanted to know what I looked like 400 years ago on a remote Caribbean island I would try the following ways. First, I would look in the water to see my reflection. Second, I would ask a family member or friend draw me in the sand with a stick. Finally, I would ask a family member or friend to mold me with clay. Those are the three interesting ways I would use to find out what I looked like.

  8. One of the ways I would try to see myself would be looking at my reflection in the water. The next way is I would ask someone to describe what I looked like. Another way I would try to se myself is making a mask or mold of my face with mud. I could also have someone sketch it with a stick in the sand or use coal from their fire and put it on wood. I could also ask someone to carve me in the wood of a tree. I don't think I would be able to live with out seeing myself.

  9. I agree with #10. This is because I would have done the same thing that he/she would do. I would either look in the water, ask someone to draw my face in the ground with a stick, or make a mold. Another way to figure out how I looked might be to look into somebody's eye and see the reflection. These are some of the ways I would figure out how I looked.

  10. If I wanted to know what I looked like while living on a Caribbean island four hundred years ago I would probably try to look at myself in the water because it would look like a reflection in a mirror. The second way would be to ask some one t describe what I looked like. The third way would be that after it had just rained I would put my face into tok a smooth part of the mud and mould my face. THe fourth way I would try too find out how I looked would be t ask some one to carve my face into a pice of wood or draw me in the sand. I think it would be hard for me to live without knowing what I looked like.

  12. There are a few ways to try to find out how you look without using mirrors, glass, cameras, and pencils. The first possible way is to go to a body of water and look at the reflections in the water. The second way is to ask a great artist to paint as many details as possible. By using a feather, the artist can paint your picture with paint made from mashed up berries, laves, and mud. The third possible way is to get some clay, flaten it, and then push it against your face and let it harden. Then you can look at it like a mask. Those are only a few of the ways to find out how you look.

  13. There are many ways you could look at yourself without mirrors, glass, cameras or pencils. One way is you could look in the water and see your reflection. Another way is to find diamonds and see yourself in the diamond. Another way is to close your eyes and put your head in the sand. The sand needs to be a little wet. If you push your head in the sand it would show your face. The last thing is if there are some colorful foods on the island you could put the juice colors on your face and shove your face in a tree and look at it.

  14. If I didn't know what I looked like over 400 years ago and there were no mirrors, cameras, pencils and glass, first I would ask people around me that live on the Caribbean Island to give a description of what I look like. Also if there are people around I could ask maybe for an artist who could paint a picture of me. If that didn't work I would go to the ocean and look and see is I could make out my reflection in the water. Maybe you could look at yourself in the back of a metal spoon or plate. These are all perfectly good ways to see yourself, without cameras, pencils, glass, and mirrors.

  15. Is hard to imagine living 400 years ago in a Caribbean island without mirrors, cameras, pencils or glass. The first thing I would do to know how do I look is ask a person around me how is my face, nose, eyes, mouth, ears and hair. The second thing I could do is ask somebody to draw me on the sand at the beach or in a piece of wood with a sharp tool. The third thing I could do is look in the water and see my reflection.

  17. What I'd do to look at myself, if I lived back then, is polish a stone or shell and look at myself. Or I would ask someone I trusted to tell me. If I couldn't do those things, I'd look in the water. If I couldn't do that, I'd ask a friend to carve a picture of me on a piece of wood. That's what I'd do if I lived back then.

  19. If I was stranded on an island and was dieing to know what I looked like, these are the ways I would try to find out. First I would look in some clear water and see my reflection. Have you ever tried that? if it works you should see yourself the same way as if you were looking in a mirror. The second way I would try and find out would be to ask somebody on the island what I looked like. If there is anyone else on the island. The third way I think would work would be to ask a person to draw a picture of me in the sand. I think if you do all that you would know what you looked liked.

  20. Three ways that you might be able to see your self you could ask some one else or look in a pond, lake or an ocean. And finally you could feel your face.

  21. If I was stuck on a remote Caribbean island, and wanted to know how I looked I might look in water. Or maybe ask a person you would have trusted to tell how you look. Lastly you get wet sand and hold it there until it dries and it will make a mold of what your face looks like.

  22. Because people have such ingenuity, creativity, and flexibility, there are an infinite amount of possibilities that a person could try. First of all, you could talk to a person near you, then have then either describe you, or draw a picture of your face with a stick in some mud. But even though that is a possibility, it isn't the most reliable way to do it. If the person can't describe you well, or isn't a very good artist, than you might not get a very accurate description. A way you could be more accurate is if you put your face in some wet mud, waited a little while for it to harden, then took your face out. Then you would have an accurate cast. Although that would work, it would take a long time, and wouldn't be very comfortable. The mud cast could also crack or break when you take it off. One of the best ways to do find out what you look like is to simply look into calm water. This way is simple, not time consuming, accurate, and reliable. That is how I would check how I look without the 21st century’s luxuries.

  23. If I wanted to know what I looked like I would ask someone near me to describe me. That way I can get a picture in my head of what I look like. The second thing I would do is look at my reflection in the water. The water is a lot like glass and can show color as well as just the shape of things. The last thing I would do is get someone to carve my face out of wood. That way I could see my face in 3D.

  25. If I lived on a remote Caribbean island 400 years ago and couldn't see my face, one way I could see my reflection is by gazing into some water if I could find a lake, pond, or stream. If there was some wet sand, I could stick my face in it and get a pretty good hypothesis on what I looked like. The sand would harden and I would get to see the my face. If there were any people nearby, I would ask them to describe the features of my face. The person would try to describe me as best as they could, but to get a more accurate guess, I could look into that person's pupil of their eye to see my reflection. Not knowing what I look like wouldn't be such a bad thing because then I could imagine and create my own picture of myself.

  26. The first thing I would do if I was on this island is to look for a pool of water to see my reflection. Then I would look at my shadow to see the shape of my body. I would then ask someone that lives on the island to describe what I look like. what color are my eyes? the shape of my eyes?

  27. If I was on a remote caribbean island how could I tell what I look like? First I would look at the water to see my reflection beacause islands have lots of water around them. Two, I would ask someone to explain how I look to get an idea. Last, I would put my face in the sand or in clay to get a imprint of my face. Those are a few ways you can find out what your face looks like.

  28. If i lived in the Caribbean 400 years ago and I couldn't see my face, I would look in the water for my reflection. I would run my fingers over my face like blind people do to form a picture in their mind. I could then draw what I feel in the sand. I could stand in the sand in the sunlight and trace my silhouette. One final idea is that I would put clay or mud around my face to find out the shape of my face. I think it was difficult for people who lived 400 years ago to find out what they looked like, but their desire to know lead to the invention of mirrors and other ways to see yourself.

  29. If I was on a remote island in the Caribbean 400 years ago and I wanted to know what I looked like. First I would look in the water because if you look in the water you can see your reflection. Second if there was a person or animal on the island I would look into their eyes to see my reflection. Third I would try to find a piece of crystal and look at it.

  30. If I lived on a remote island in the Caribbean about 400 years ago and I wanted to know what I look like, I would look into the water and look through the ripples and try and see my reflection. I could also ask a trusted friend or parent to tell me what I look like. The last example I can think of is to ask anybody if I can feel their face and compare it to mine like Morning Girl did with her mother. I don't actually know how a person 400 years ago would've felt about what they look like but if they didn't have the curiosity about what they looked like, then we wouldn't have ever thought of inventing mirrors and glass and other kinds of ways to see your reflection.
